HOUSEHOLDERS in a Plymouth street are being plagued with a pigeon problem which is leaving their properties regularly covered in droppings.
Residents in Desborough Road, St Jude's, are fed up with having to scrape bird poop off their steps, ledges and window sills.
They say a flock of about 60 birds are causing a health hazard and have called on Plymouth City Council to do something, but the authority has said there is little it can do.
Residents have also contacted private pest controllers but do not want to have the pigeons killed, and other methods of driving them away are either highly expensive or have been tried with disappointing results. The upshot is that the residents are at their wits' end.
Barbara Smyth, aged 80, told The Herald she has to get on her hands and knees and scrape bird mess off her front steps every day. She said otherwise it poses a slipping hazard, as well as being filthy and unsightly.
