Signs posted around the park urge drivers to take "moor care" and large speed signs painted on the road and even electronic speed display signs reminding drivers how fast they're travelling have all been deployed to try and slow drivers down and make them realise the risks they post to cattle, sheep, horses and ponies which roam freely.
However, a recent posting on a community social media page dedicated to the area of Shaugh Prior, Lee Moor and Wotter highlights how those messages are not always getting through to motorists.
Andy Whitfield took to the Facebook page with a desperately tragic experience he witnessed on Monday July 22.
Posting a distressing image of a horse laying on its side, he wrote: "I had to wait with this beautiful stallion last night until somebody came and shot him.
"He was hit by local driver whose first line of defence was: 'I wasn't driving fast.'
