PLYMOUTH poets are to perform at two emotionally charged events in the city this month as they highlight the suffering of women and children in the world's war-torn troublespots.

On Friday, March 8, Jackie Wacha. and Marieluise Niehus are due to read at the Sundial, from noon, in a gathering to mark International Women's Day.

Then on Saturday, March 30, Jackie and another Plymouth poet, Jon Nash, will be part of the Plymouth Gig for Gaza, from 7pm at Bread and Roses in Ebrington Street.

Par The events are separate but linked and both are aimed at raising awareness of war and suffering. In addition to poetry the events will feature music and speeches.

The International Women's Day happening, organised by Plymouth Women's Network, is entitled Women and.

War and billed as "a stand for women's rights in relation to war" Attendees are invited to "bring flowers, candles and imagery for a memorial to women and children" There will also be a "die in" with everyone attending urged to dress in white and lie on the floor.
