The fairways first started to show surface water and then it became the greens as well, so much so it was impossible to play and so the players began to walk in thoroughly drenched, and the competition was called void.
Being President's Day there was also a nearest the pin competition on the seventh, which was won by Marc Nash with a superb drive to within three to four yards of the pin and also a separate competition for the nine holers, which was won by Ian MacPherson. A re-run next week is on the cards with currently fine weather predicted.
A strong team of Fossils drove west for their match against a formidable team from St Enodoc.
The nearest the pin hole chosen for the match was the 180-yard holell playing extremely long into a direct headwind and it wasn't until the fourth match that anybody actually got a ball on the green! In that group was St Mellion's winner, Mike Page.
Richard Palmer, in the seventh match, secured the win for St Enodoc.
As for the match, the predictions came true as the various pairings battled it out remembering that no less than seven single-figure handicappers spread were across the teams.
