Restaurant owner says standards are better

A PLYMOUTH business owner has spoken out after being hit with a one-star food hygiene rating – despite the fact it scored ‘generally satisfactory’ in two of three areas.

Bombay Burger Kitchen, at Bretonside, was visited by food hygiene inspectors from Plymouth City Council on July 11 this year.

The inspector raised concerns around the ‘management of food safety’, noting ‘major improvement’ was needed.

Owner Faz Miah said he took immediate action at the restaurant, after one issue led to the one-star rating for food hygiene.

Bombay Burger Kitchen was told its standards around ‘hygienic food handling’ and ‘cleanliness and condition of facilities’ were satisfactory.

Mr Miah explained that, when inspectors visited the restaurant, the kitchen hand-wash basin was “out of order” due to the “switching on of the taps causing power cuts” – because of “another fault” at the premises. The staff were able to access another sink in a different room, but this was said to have been deemed “not enough” for hygiene purposes.
