Setback for Gale and Matcham in race for second

DAVE Gale and Steve Matcham's hopes for the runners-up spot in Men's B suffered a bit of a setback when they were beaten 4-6 6-3 6-3 by Alex Stephenson and Dom Sivewright.

Dave and Steve clinched the first set, but Alex and Dom hit back with an aggressive playing style with strong serves from Dom and some powerful volleys from Alex which enabled them to take the next two sets.

Sean Wolstenholme and Simon Dixon coped better with the windy conditions than their opponents Andrew Regan and Pete Ireland winning 6-4, 6-5, 6-3.

The top of the table clash in Men's A saw Alex Cox and sub Dan Chadder win all three sets against Ben Knight and Tom 6-4, 6-5, 6-2.

Alex and Matt played again a few days later and were even more imperious in beating Chris Janes and Andrew Leigh 6-0, 6-1, 6-2, while Chris Welland and Varun Philip beat Alan Mayes and Jose Rojas 6-2 6-2 6-0.

Alison Goodwin and Anna Tickle played well in beating Ann Short and sub Sandy Johnson 6-2, 6-3, 6-3, while Alison Miles and sub Janet Butler won the first set, but Nicky Trevaskis and Fiona Crutchley. Hit back to win 3-6.6-4.
