LAST year’s Division One winners, Mannamead A, faced last year’s runners-up, St Budeaux A, and had the expected close match.

Mannamead had to bring in a late substitute, Roanna George, due to injury, while St Budeaux had to play injured player Kate Gibbons, to be able to fulfil the match.

The first pairs of both clubs dominated the play, but it was St Budeaux who just had the edge and won overall, 43-41.

Newly-promoted Ivybridge A played Yelverton A but it wasn’t a happy return to Division One as they lost heavily 72-6 to Yelverton.

Devonshire B played their A team but found them too strong as they lost 15-72.

Mannamead B also had a change of line-up due to player illness when they played Tavistock A in Division Two.

Both Mannamead pairs had hardly played together but did well to push Tavistock all the way.

Sue Gale and Linda Trebilock, of Mannamead, beat Tavi’s second pair in a good hard hitting match and narrowly lost to Tavy’s first pair of Frances Lindsay and Hilary Picton.

Nancy O’Connor and Louise Rutt did well and had some good rallies against Tavy’s second pair but it was Tavy who won 57-34.

Yelverton B played newly-promoted Menheniot A and found them well up to playing in Division Two as Menheniot won 60-34.

Rachel Youngs-Pearce and Megan Woock won a match for Yelverton by beating Menheniot’s Tamsin Hemming and Lucy Matthews.

Plympton A’s first match of the season was against their B team. There were some very close matches with competitive, tense, but the A team secured both tie-breaks resulting in a final game score of 68-28.

Hill Lane A beat Looe A 64-36 in Division Three in a math that saw plenty of long rallies.
