AN epic steam train journey is coming to Plymouth next month. Passengers will board a special service recreating the final journey taken by Clun Castle some 60 years ago.
The giant 80-ton steam engine was the last of British Rail’s Castle Class engines to be withdrawn from service. Built in Swindon for British Railways in 1950, the gleaming green loco has 6ft 8ins wheels.
It was sold for £2,400 in 1966 to be turned into scrap, but was rescued by railway enthusiasts who renovated it at Tyseley Vintage Trains in Birmingham.
