Tex's tons help dethrone Kings

A REMARKABLE performance by Tex Pearce for St Levans led them to a 7-4 victory over Kings B in the Plymouth City Super League.

Pearce netted 12 tons, including one of two maximums for his team, and a 140 checkout that was the highest of both the match and week across all fixtures in the league. That checkout bettered a 100 from John Sturdy and Anna Pearce's 105, whilst the other maximum for the Keyham outfit came from Mark Hopkins.

Pearce (28.90) rounded off a fine outing with a 3-0 singles win that contained best legs of 14 and 18 darts when rounding off the win last on.

The only resistance from the Oreston team came from Martyn Down, who threw ten ton-plusses over the course of the evening.

A 7-4 win for Steampacket at Clifton was dominated by George Beckett, who checked one leg in a single visit from 100 to put the cherry on top of a 12-ton personal haul.

Dan Jewell's checkouts of 93 and 79 for the Clifton had to settle for second and third place, whilst the only maximum of the evening came from Beckett's team-mate Phil Taylor.

Beckett (26.37) ripped through his singles with winning legs of 17 and 18 darts contributing to a fine average in the 3-0 win.

Octagon continued their relentless parade to the title with a 10-1 win over Victoria in which Dave Matthews was the main protagonist with 12 ton-plusses. Matthews was well supported by John Mann, who threw 11 three-figure scores, whilst the pair also teamed for a 1001 leg taken in 32 darts for a 31.28 single dart average.

That bettered a 39-darter from Lee Hellings and Alfie Ford (25.67) whilst Fred Goldsmith's (25.05) was put away 3-0 with the help of the highest checkout of 118.

Matthews joined Neil White in achieving a 180, whilst Gary Eaton put the other onto the scoreboard for the defeated team.
