14,000 FLOCK TO BARBICAN FOR XMAS EVENT
WILLIAM TELFORD
Thousands see lights switch-on

A RECORD-breaking 14,000 people turned out to see Plymouth's Barbican lit up for Christmas. The hugely popular annual event started at midday on November 16, with a variety of family-friendly activities, including live music from choirs and groups on a new stage, street performers including "the Grinch", and a range of stalls selling gifts, food and drink.

The day culminated with the big switch-on at 5.15pm, with this year's Plymouth Community Hero, Jo Connett, the guest of honour, alongside "Santa", Deputy Lord Mayor Pauline Murphy, actor Andy Ford, who is starring as Muddles in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at Theatre Royal Plymouth, and the city's RNLI ney, Santa, and Muddles from Theacrew.
