A NEW masterplan for Plymouth’s disused airport has been slammed as a “land grab through the back door” by the city’s Tory chief.
Cllr Andy Lugger, leader of Plymouth City Council’s Conservative group, said a pre-application plan submitted by the site’s long leaseholder, Sutton Harbour Group (SHG), left him “incredulous” and should be turned down.
Cllr Lugger’s opinion is that no planning submission should be considered for the 113-acre site until SHG has proved it has complied with covenants in the lease for the land. It was given “one last chance” to do so in February, with the council threatening legal action which could see it reclaim the lease.
