A FORMER Royal Mail worker from Plymouth who has turned to nursing at the age of 52 has won a scholarship set up in memory of a nurse who took her own life.
James Carlyle spent 30 years working in retail, as a store manager of a large supermarket, and as an area manager for Royal Mail.
He is the beneficiary of The Katie Reynolds Scholarship, which was set up by Derriford Hospital to provide training to help someone enter the profession.
In April 2020, Katie Reynolds, a nurse on Bracken Ward, died at her home in Plymouth.
An inquest held at Plymouth Coroner's Court noted that, at the time of Katie's death, she had been suffering from anxiety during the first lockdown, fearing she would contract coronavirus and pass it on to her vulnerable patients.
Following her death, a scholarship was created in her honour.
