CAN YOU SPARE 30 MINUTES A WEEK?
KATIE TIMMS
Volunteers needed to help the elderly

A CHARITY is urging Plymouth people to spend 30 minutes a week talking to a lonely elderly person. There are more than 300 people aged over 75 signed up to Re-engage, a charity telephone befriending service.

Re-engage is urgently seeking people to donate some of their time – and free mobile phone minutes – to talk to an elderly person from Plymouth.

Sally Flowers, head of service delivery at Re-engage, said a simple call can bring a lonely person “great comfort” and make a difference to their lives. Some of the people signed up are “incredible lonely” and may not see or hear from anyone from week to week.
