WILD swimmers who enjoy the fresh open air waters off Plymouth Hoe are being warned to reconsider dipping their toes after post-storm sewage discharges.
Two locations have been highlighted by Surfers Against Sewage both popular with wild swimmers and others and regularly places where sewage finds its way into the sea after stormy weather.
In May this year the Cornwall-based charity SAS highlighted the unhygienic waters of Plymouth Hoe during a nationwide protest. The charity has long called for bathing spots to be protected from discharges and a 90% reduction in sewage discharges by 2030. It claims that the mismanagement of water companies led to 301,091 sewage discharges in 2022.
