Avani creates history, India bag four medals

CHATEAROUX is about 300km away from Paris. An obscure small town before the shooting event started at the 2024 Paris Olympics, has turned into a happy space for Indians. The shooting venue has given India three medals at the Olympics and has continued to be a happy hunting ground for the country during the Paralympics. On Friday, India’s Avani Lekhara scripted history by becoming India’s first para-athlete to win two straight gold at the Paralympics. She won the 10m air rifle event with an Olympic record of 249.7, bettering her own Paralympic record of 249.6 set in the Japanese capital in the summer of 2021. She won in the SH1 category, in which athletes who have movement affected in their arms, lower trunk, legs or have no limbs participate.
