Love-hate affair with intent

WHEN Reece Topley came back for his second over at the Providence Stadium in Guyana, Virat Kohli had been at it for a while. It is the semifinal of the Men's T20 World Cup and India are going up against the defending champions England. Not many stages are bigger than this.

And the weather had only added to the drama. With Guyana receiving significant rainfall in June regularly, there was always a threat that it could play a part. Then there was the question of not having a reserve day. It was a day match and the global body had a provision of extending play by four and a half hours after the scheduled finish to accommodate the contest. And as expected, rain did its part in the morning.

With the toss getting delayed due to wet outfield, it took almost ninety minutes after the scheduled time for the coin flip to happen, the anticipation only grew. And so did the key talking points for the match on broadcast. One among them being Kohli.
