It may be noted that despite emerging as the single largest party in the Corporation, the BJP failed to get enough numbers to have its own Mayor and the Deputy Mayor. The Congress which is ruling in the State, managed to get the support of Independent and smaller parties and successfully clinched power.
As per the internal pact in the Congress, those selected will enjoy the post of Mayor and Deputy Mayor for a year only. Later, they have to pave the way for others to take over.
