UTTARAKHAND has recorded 983 fatalities attributed to rash driving and speeding in 2024. Official reports indicate that the majority of accidents in the state have been linked to reckless behaviour, with a notable increase observed not only in the plains but also in the mountainous regions.

In the Himalayan state, which spans an area of nearly 55,000 square kilometres and is covered by 70% forests, 983 people have lost their lives in 1,594 road accidents this year, according to data from the traffic directorate.
