While inaugurating a public meeting in Tanur as part of the CPM Malappuram district conference, Pinarayi warned that communalism would overwhelm the IUML if it continued to support the Jamaat-e-Islami and the SDPI.
In reaction to the CM's statement, IUML national general secretary P K Kunhalikutty accused the CPM of playing the communal card to win the support of the majority community in the upcoming elections.
He also pointed out that Sports Minister and Tanur MLA V Abdurahiman had previously secured support from the SDPI to defeat the Muslim League in past elections.
