OVER 40 arecanut trees were destroyed by a herd of wild elephants at Arvathoklu limits in Madikeri taluk, on Monday. The affected farmers demand release of immediate compensation for the crop loss even as they allege inefficient measures undertaken by the Forest Department against the increasing wild elephant conflict.
A herd of over 10 elephants, including elephant calves, were spotted roaming across the estates and farmlands in Garikeri region of Arvathoklu panchayat limits.
