AS the government tabled two Bills on 'One Nation One Election' on Tuesday, the Congress party has raised questions about whether the NDA government has the requisite numbers to pass them in Lok Sabha.

The two Bills, which propose the mechanism to hold simultaneous elections, were introduced in the Lok Sabha after a heated debate.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor criticised the government saying that voting at the introduction stage of the two Bills in the Lok Sabha revealed that the BJP did not have the two-thirds majority required to pass a constitutional amendment.

After the division vote, the BJP got 269 votes in favour of the Bill and 198 MPs opposing it.
