The initiative was taken by the Tamil Nadu government, who had been supporting Gukesh, for a while.
The specially decorated vehicle, showcased Gukesh's accomplishments and went around Chepauk. Inside the hall, where the felicitation function was held, TN chief minister MK Stalik gave away ₹5 crore cheque.
Five-time World champion Viswanathan Anand lauded Gukesh for his calm and cool nature. He complimented the youngster for his hard work, dedication and mental toughness in winning the World crown. He also pointed out that Tamil Nadu chess culture too attributed to Gukesh's growth.
