FOLKLORE is often pushed to the peripheries as tales of the Ramayana and Mahabharata take centre stage. But the legend of Madurai Veeran is one that comes alive on stage in fearsome therukoothu plays, embodies temple festivals and can even be spotted in white writing on street boards.
In the land of flames, with the dust of the battlefield, and love criminalised, the tale of the Madurai Veeran begins.
"The Naicker Kingdom lived in fear until Madurai Veeran stepped up. Brave and strong, sword in hand, he fought for peace and justice true. Madurai Veeran turned the tide, restoring pride and hope anew," begins 'The Valor of Madurai Veeran' sung by Gaana Muthu and produced by musician and artist Tenma.
As the parai beats blend with Korkkupet Pambai and Udkuppet, visuals of smoke, fire, and swords clashing follow.
