New laws will give justice, says Shah
The New Indian Express|July 02, 2024
HOME Minister Amit Shah, who spearheaded the three new criminal laws, which have come into force now, said on Monday that the Acts emphasise justice rather than punishment and appealed to the Opposition not to indulge in politics over them, maintaining that they have been brought after wider consultation.

New laws will give justice, says Shah

Speaking at a presser at the Parliament Library, Shah officially announced the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Surakasha Sanhita, and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam. These laws replace the British-era Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, and Indian Evidence Act.

Shah, however, maintained that he and the government are open to constructive suggestions and, if required, changes in the laws could be incorporated. "I am ready to meet anyone. But please do not do politics," he said.
