Energy Development Corporation: Paving the way to climate resiliency through 24/7 renewable energy
The Philippine Star|October 19, 2024
Amid the very real, ongoing impact of climate change that the Philippines is subjected to, optimism shines through with the concerted efforts of both government and private sector toward climate action.

At the 2024 Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR), held recently in the Philippines for the first time, climate leaders and experts cited the country's efforts to bolster disaster preparedness and resiliency amid its high-risk stature.

“In the last few days, the discussions I’ve been having with colleagues from the Philippines really show how it is way ahead of the curve on disaster risk reduction,” stated Kamal Kishore, the special representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction and head of the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR).

In particular, Kishore acknowledged the country's people- and community-centered focus, the active involvement of a vibrant and dynamic civil society, and synergy among various government agencies as key strengths in working toward climate resiliency.

Energy Development Corporation (EDC), the renewable energy arm of Lopez-led First Gen Corporation, lauds this optimism and joins the global climate community to encourage and support the Philippines' ongoing efforts regarding disaster preparedness and risk reduction.

“Positive affirmation is important in recognizing that we are taking the right steps not only in terms of coping with climate change but in the overall mitigation and possible prevention of its consequences,” says EDC vice president and head of Corporate Support Functions, Allan V. Barcena.

For its part, EDC highlights how its long-standing advocacy and commitment to propagating renewable energy (RE) is in harmony with this approach toward climate resiliency.
