Since yesterday, sources said, nearly 40 leaders associated with the mother organisation and its sister wings have submitted mass resignations protesting against various internal issues at a time when the state party has asked them to strengthen its party base in Siliguri for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in 2024.
Trouble broke out after the BJP state leadership recently appointed Arun Mandal as Siliguri organisational district president, replacing Anandamoy Barman, who is an MLA from Matigara Naxalbari.
The matter came to the fore after the new district president, Mr Mandal, constituted a new 22-member district office bearers and appointed them with immediate effect on 20 August this year.
Interestingly, three present vice presidents, two former vice presidents and three present and former secretaries tendered their resignation letters yesterday.
