The two, a 20-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl, had reportedly gone missing on 6 July. Fresh protests erupted in the state after photographs purportedly of the bodies of the two surfaced on social media.
The government responded by re-imposing the suspension of internet services for five days as a precautionary measure and announced that all schools in the state would be closed till Friday.
Confirming the arrival of the CBI team, state chief minister N Biren Singh told that Union a Press conference Home Minister Amit Shah assured him that those who kidnapped and killed the two students will be arrested and punished.
"After landing in Imphal, they have started their investigation," the chief minister said.
