IISCO, police urge DVRRC to release water from DVC dams after water crisis

Since Sunday, there has been an acute drinking water crisis in the Burnpur Steel Township of IISCO Steel Plant (ISP). The Asansol Municipal Corporation (AMC) has been requested to supply drinking water through tankers.

Talking to The Statesman, Bhashkar Kumar, General Manager (COC) of IISCO Steel Plant (ISP) Burnpur informed that after release from DVC dams, the water scenario has improved. However, still there is acute drinking water crisis in New Town and Rangapara areas. The industrial supply to the steel plant has not been affected so far.

"Due to scarcity of water, a sufficient amount of water was not reaching our own pump house. We are clearing the water channels so that water flows through the pump house. Not only for drinking but there is demand for water due to the Chhath Puja celebrations in the various Chhath Ghats of the township," he added.
