Orange alert issued as Damodar River Valley reservoirs surge due to continuous rainfall

As a consequence of incessant rainfall in the upper catchment regions of the Damodar River Valley, particularly in Jharkhand, water levels in all reservoirs and dams have risen. This has led to the issuance of an orange alert for districts in the lower region.

The Damodar Valley Reservoir Regulatory Commission (DVRRC), which is entrusted to look after the release of water from the dams and barrages, has already issued an orange alert after releasing about one lakh cusecs of water from the Panchet and Maithon Dams of Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC).

Yesterday evening, 18,000 cusecs of water were disgorged from Maithon Dam, and another 30,000 cusecs of water were disgorged from Panchet Dam, resulting in a total release of 48,000 cusecs of water downstream.
