Mamata Banerjee tears into BJP on Martyrs' Day rally over Manipur issue

Launching a scathing attack on the BJP-led Central government over the Manipur incident where women were paraded naked in public, Trinamul Congress chairperson Mamata Banerjee said on Friday that the women of the country will throw the party out of power in the coming elections.

Addressing a mammoth rally to observe the Trinamul Congress’ Martyrs Day at Esplanade in the city, Miss Banerjee, also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying: “Modiji, expand your heart. While in a foreign land you cry for your countrymen, but you never shed your tears in your country when hapless people cry for help.”Miss Banerjee said if the BJP returns to power in 2024, the democratic set up in our country will be totally destroyed. “Women will be abused. The BJP will let loose one community against the other, Hindus against the Muslims, Rajbangshis against the Kamtapuris, north Bengal districts against south Bengal districts and so on,” she said.
