GREAT BALES OF FIRE

This could be the last time we ever see Gareth play... and I'd love him to go out in a blaze of Qatar glory

GREAT BALES OF FIRE

IAN RUSH is hoping that Gareth Bale can end his Wales career in a blaze of World Cup glory.

The Liverpool and Dragons legend wouldn't be surprised if Bale, 33, does not kick another ball for any side following the Qatar finals.

Since the last Wales game in September, the former Tottenham and Real Madrid star has only featured in 30 minutes of football for his MLS outfit Los Angeles FC.

But that appearance included a stunning header to send the MLS cup final against Philadelphia Union into a penalty shoot-out.

Los Angeles FC triumphed in that, to earn Bale yet another winner's medal to add to his extensive collection.

Now Rush believes the World Cup could be his football swansong.

He said: "You never know, as far as Bale is concerned, it could be his farewell, not just to Wales, but to football itself.

"It appears that he only went to the MLS with Los Angeles FC to keep himself in shape for the World Cup.

"It's certain that if it is the end of his career, he will want to go out with a bang, in a blaze of glory. That would be fantastic.

"He always seems to produce his best football for Wales."
