BRITONS will be left hot and bothered as a North-South weather divide kicks in today.

There could be highs of 33C in the South East and East Anglia on what is set to be the hottest day of the year so far - while booming thunderstorms are forecast for swathes of the North.

A Met Office yellow weather warning is in force from 1pm until 9pm as 40mm of rain threatens the East Midlands, North East England, Yorkshire and Humber, and Scotland.

A spokesman said: "There is a chance that an organised line of thunderstorms could develop across northern Britain."
