Nusrat Jahan keeps mentioning her son Yishaan during an exclusive chat with Calcutta Times. The actress-MP, whose son is turning one in August, can barely contain her excitement. “We plan to take lots of pictures, so that we can show him how we celebrated his first birthday when he grows up,” says Nusrat, throwing open the conversation. Busy with back-to-back projects, the straight-talking actress gets candid about the journey of motherhood, hubby dearest Yash and why her comfort zone now lies only within the bounds of her family. Excerpts:
Yishaan will turn one in August. How has motherhood changed you?
Nothing in life will make you as happy, sad, exhausted, and incredibly proud as motherhood. The journey is different for all mothers, but the experience is precious to all. When I was pregnant, I was happy knowing that something within me was breathing and moving. The feeling continued until I gave birth to a life, followed by all the changes that a woman’s body goes through after childbirth. I evolved each day, learnt about strengths I didn’t know I had, patience and selflessness — the phase taught me a lot. Watching Yishaan grow each day amazes me. All the achievements, awards and rewards taken together cannot be compared to the happiness parents feel when they see their child healthy and smiling, by the grace of God.
How do you plan to celebrate Yishaan’s first birthday?
It will be a private affair with family members and close friends. At this age, he will not understand anything about the celebration. So, we plan to capture the occasion in photos and videos, and show him when he grows up.
