The rise of indie music has given artistes creative freedom, says Asees Kaur

Asees Kaur started her musical career as a contes-tant in a music reality show. And she went on to establish herself in the Hindi music industry by delivering popular numbers like Raataan Lambiyan, Ve Maahi, Chogada and Bolna. Asees, who has also been active on the indie music front, feels that every singer wishes to express himself/herself through music and indie music gives them that chance. Even though Bollywood has its own charm and incomparable reach, she says that indie music has come of age in the last two years and it provides musicians the opportunity to fulfil their musical desires. Asees, who was in Ahmedabad recently for a performance, spoke to us about being true to music, why it is important to continue creating good quality music and a lot more. Excerpts from a chat:
