Mumbai: State minister Nawab Malik, in judicial custody since March in a money laundering case, could not vote in the Rajya Sabha elections on Friday as two benches of the Bombay high court did not entertain his urgent plea to be escorted by police to Vidhan Bhavan to cast his vote.
On Thursday, both Malik and former minister Anil Deshmukh, also in judicial custody in a money laundering case, rushed to the HC seeking urgent relief after a special PMLA court refused to allow the NCP leaders to vote on Friday. Malik’s lawyers sought an urgent hearing, but Deshmukh’s team waited and watched and ultimately did not move for a hearing on Friday.
