The bitter loss at the Tokyo Summer Games helped Olympian couple Atanu Das and Deepika Kumari look at the sport they have loved all their lives with a new perspective.
It offered them the opportunity to process failures and the time to realize there's life beyond archery. The duo took a sabbatical from archery and planned for parenthood. As things stand, Atanu and Deepika, a former World No. 1 recurve archer, are expecting their first child in December.
"I realized after the Olympics that archery can't be everything for me. I must stop thinking about it. We athletes too have personal lives, and we sometimes forget that there are people waiting for you back home. Parenthood is equally important," said Atanu, who was crowned the National Games champion in the men's individual recurve event.
