Mumbai: With the arrest of six persons, the Government Railway Police claim to have busted a loan app scam with links to China and Nepal and running into several crores. Two of the accused—a father-son duo from Delhi-- controlled the India operations of the scam and drew a monthly “salary” of Rs 50,000. More arrests are likely soon.
The case dates back to March when a young woman was targeted by the gang. Her cousin received images with the woman's face being morphed onto pornographic content. The images came with texts from an unknown sender stating that the woman had not repaid a loan. Disturbed, her cousin approached the Andheri GRP and a case of molestation was filed. The sender’s phone number was tracked to Karnataka. It was being used by a 19year-old working as a recovery agent for a commission. After his arrest, the GRP formed a team to look into the scam.
