New Delhi: Though this was 16% lower than the record collections of about Rs 1.7 lakh crore in April, the government said the first month of a fiscal year typically generates lower revenue (May collections reflect transactions made in April). This may have to do with companies pushing sales in March to meet targets before the end of the financial year.
"This is only the fourth time the monthly GST collection crossed Rs 1.4 lakh crore mark since inception of GST and third month at a stretch since March 2022," an official statement said.
