Ahmedabad/Vadodara: To win the high-stakes Gujarat assembly battle, political parties are not banking on grand narratives and lofty rhetorics alone this time; they are also pinging voters with hyperlocal concerns.

For instance, BJP has appointed two dedicated persons per booth to disseminate messages to local voters through WhatsApp groups. “The admins of the WhatsApp groups amplify the party’s campaigns such as ‘Double Engine Sarkar’, ‘Bharosa ni BJP Sarkar’, and ‘Ame Banavyu Gujarat’. They connect directly with the voters of their areas,” said Pankaj Shukla, state co-ordinator of the party’s IT and social media cell. More than 30,000 people would spread the messages of BJP across Gujarat, Shukla added.
