Around 368 candidates contesting the municipal elections are crorepatis with assets over Rs 2 crore, said NGO Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR) on Saturday.
Of the 1,336 candidates contesting the Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections whose financial status was studied by ADR, 151 reported wealth of over Rs 5 crore and 217, assets of Rs 2 crore and upto Rs 5 crore.
"The role of money power in our elections is evident from the fact that all major political parties give tickets to the wealthy candidates," report said, adding that 249 Bharatiya Janata Party candidates had average assets of Rs 4 crore, 248 Aam Aadmi Party candidates had average assets of Rs 3.7 crore, and 245 Congress candidates of Rs 1.9 crore.
