Under LG’s Watch, Key Yamuna Polluter Undergoing ‘A Positive Change’
As Najafgarh Drain Turns Over A New Leaf, 17k MT Silt Cleared In A Month

New Delhi: The Najafgarh drain, which is one of the main polluters of the Yamuna, is undergoing a positive change. Around two-kilometre stretch of the drain has been completely cleared of silt, claimed sources in the office of lieutenant governor VK Saxena.

Since October 15, nearly 17,000 metric tonnes of silt have been removed from this stretch, the sources said.

Over three lakh metric tonnes of silt are, on average, deposited in the drain annually and currently about 85 lakh MT solid waste is lying deposited in it. This is almost equal to the amount of waste accumulated at the Ghazipur landfill site.
