New Delhi: The blame game between the lieutenant governor’s office and the elected state government over the new excise policy intensified on Tuesday after former LG Anil Baijal accused deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia of “perpetrating blatant lies and falsehoods” to save his own skin.
Addressing a press conference last Saturday, Sisodia had alleged that despite reading the Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22 twice before giving it the go-ahead in May 2021, Baijal, the then LG, had had a U-turn and made it mandatory for the liquor licensees to obtain a no-objection certificate from Delhi Development Authority and Municipal Corporation of Delhi to operate in non-conforming areas just two days before the shops were to open on November 17 last year.
Sisodia had claimed that Baijal’s decision resulted in a loss of thousands of rupees to the state exchequer as the licensees couldn’t open shops in non-conforming areas in 67 municipal wards.
