Former Uttar Pradesh DGP Brij Lal, currently a BJP MP from Rajya Sabha, has been appointed the head of the parliamentary standing committee on home affairs in place of Congress's Abhishek Manu Singhvi, whereas Eknath Shinde camp's Shiv Sena MP Prataprao Jadhav has replaced another Congress MP, Shashi Tharoor, as head of the IT committee.
Giving a big leg up to first-time Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Thakur, the government has appointed him chairman of the committee on education, women, children, youth, and sports. Thakur has also been given key organizational responsibilities in BJP including as co-in charge for assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh this year.
While BJP has kept health and home, Congress has retained the environment committee with Jairam Ramesh as its chairman.
