Blast on rail track in Raj, NIA called in

Udaipur/Jaipur: In a suspected terror act, unidentified saboteurs tried to blow up a section of the Udaipur-Ahmedabad rail route near this Rajasthan city of lakes and palaces around 8.30pm on Saturday causing cracks on the Odha bridge just over a couple of hours after the newly inaugurated Udaipur-Asarwa Intercity Express had passed by.

Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had been called in along with the state anti-terrorism squad and RPF to probe the explosion on the track about 35km from Udaipur. “The accused will be severely punished. The bridge is being restored,” he said.

Police said explosives were placed under the tracks over the bridge at Kevre Ki Naal under Zawar Mines police station.
