DETROIT You can only tip your cap so many times.
Reese Olson and Garrett Crochet are really, really good young pitchers. Kenta Maeda is a terrific, crafty veteran. The Blue Jays had to deal with all three this week, and they all pitched very well.
But here's the thing: None of them, as tough as they are on hitters, have an ERA of 0.00, which is what they combined to put up over 17/3 innings in those three starts. Olson was the latest, shutting out the Jays on three hits into the seventh inning of the Tigers' 2-1 win here on Saturday, leaving Toronto in need of an early Sunday victory in order to sneak out of Detroit with a four-game split.
