Temporary home could be fraction of museum's size

The temporary home for the Ontario Science Centre, following its abrupt closure last week, could be anywhere from a fifth to a tenth the size of the current museum.

The beloved museum — an educational staple of the GTA — was closed last Friday after concerns from the Ford government that the building’s roof was degrading. An engineering report, cited by the government, found that some of the concrete panels in the building’s roof were at risk of collapsing, though the museum was found to be safe until October.

“We had every intention on keeping the Science Centre open until the new Science Centre is built,” Infrastructure Minister Kinga Surma said, “but I cannot ignore the health and safety warning.”
