A mother is frequently advised to focus on herself because she often forgets who she is as a woman.

7 hard truths about self-absorbed parents and how to minimize the negative impact on children

Although, that may not be required if the mother is a self-absorbed parent.

Few of us may have experienced a self-absorbed mother or have met at least one self-absorbed person in our lives.

A self-absorbed mother (or a person) is someone who loves to talk about herself, her passion and her accolades. But, at the same time, she is seldom interested in sharing details about her children or family's interests and activities that keep them together.

Now, mind you! It's not that a self-absorbed mother doesn't think well of her family, though let's say that most of her attention and energy is focused on herself.

Back in the days, I remember a school friend who used to dread the PTMs.

Her worry was never about the teacher complaining to her mother about her mischiefs, but how her mother would storm into the class and make it all about how she is an epic parent back home.

Her mother usually made strong comments about how the school needs to put more effort into her daughter.

My friend shared how embarrassed she was with her mother and her constant bragging.

If my friend got good grades in her exam through self-study, her mother would dismiss it by saying that the exam paper was darn easy.

But if/when she won a trophy for the state-level swimming championship, her mother would brag for hours with their neighbors about how she used to take her daughter for early-morning practice sessions and ensured she got the required nutrition; and finally, thanks to her dedication, their daughter won the championship.

But unfortunately, her mother would completely ignore my friend's consistent efforts in the sport and never praise my friend for winning.
