Having a love of wildlife, an interest in photography and one of the most remote and extreme places on Earth as his backyard meant that for Danish photographer, Jonas Beyer, getting deeper into the field of wildlife and nature photography was a no-brainer. Beyer spends every minute of his free time in the great outdoors, not only documenting the wildlife of our amazing planet but also educating and raising awareness of what we need to preserve.
As a tour guide, Beyer works with enthusiastic nature photographers in Greenland, both above and below water. Swimming with orcas or observing polar bears are both part of his life as a wildlife photographer. Based on his experience and extensive knowledge of the animals and their habitats, he is able to capture wildlife in an extraordinary way.
By blending into nature and being accepted by the animals as a respectful visitor rather than a threat, he is able to establish a unique connection with them, translating this into photographs that tell a story and evoke a range of emotions.
It is anything but easy to capture these magnificent moments with the camera – the animals need to feel calm in his presence. Only then can Beyer capture those moments where they interact, play, care and show their curiosity.
Hey Jonas, what does a regular day look like for you as a photographer?
