Hot on the heels of the DJI Osmo Action 3 and Insta 360 X3, GoPro launched its latest action cam, the Hero 11 Black last September. This all-action/adventure camera’s headline feature is that 8:7, 27MP, 10-bit camera sensor, which captures virtually square 5.3K content that can be cropped to create 4K clips in a host of aspect ratios.
Building on the success of the Hero 10 Black, the Hero 11 Black brings back a virtually identical design. This time, though, the camera software has been simplified, and the phone software – GoPro Quik, has been upgraded.
You can’t talk about GoPro without mentioning its HyperSmooth stabilisation, and for version 5.0, GoPro has introduced 360-degree Horizon Locking at up to 5.3K. The 11 Black also introduces a new digital lens, HyperView, and captures seriously wide SuperView footage in up to 5.3K resolution at 60fps, or 4K resolution at 120fps. Add 27MP 8:7 photography to the mix, as well as some new modes, and it’s obvious that this is the mightiest GoPro to date.
1 Unlike on some recent competitors, the front screen isn't touch-sensitive.
2 The lens captures wide SuperView footage in up to 5.3K resolution at 60fps, or 4K at 120fps.
3 The mic does well with ambient sound, but is less efficient at picking up voices.
4 A drain microphone - which, as the name suggests, drains water is included.
5 The shutter button will help you activate QuikCapture, as well as commence shooting in the last shooting mode you used.
6 The rear 2.27-inch touchscreen is incredibly responsive, and allows for high-quality playback.
