Any four scoring cards are selected and placed on the board, each one associated with a different color of ribbon. The art cards are shuffled and five are placed in the display. Each player takes three background cards in card sleeves. The art cards are mostly transparent, with solid illustrations and icons for different elements. Each player also starts the game with four inspiration tokens.

On your turn, you either take an art card from the display or complete a painting. You may only choose to take a card if you have less than five in your hand. You may take the card on the far left for free, but if you take a card further down the line, you must place one inspiration token on each card you skip over. If you take a card with inspiration tokens on it, you also gain those tokens. Once a card is selected, you slide down all the cards in the line to fill the gap and draw a new art card for the display.
